If you're looking for a laptop, there's never been a better time. You're spoiled for choice, with everything from Quad Core 17in giants that will replace your home PC, to a multitude of mini-laptops. The market is teeming with the ultra-tiny, cheap laptops called netbooks - we've reviewed more of them in the PC Authority test labs in the last six months than almost any other type of laptop.

Netbooks aren't for everyone. They make great basic portables, but for many people the perfect laptop might be something different.

Designed to also be sleek and slim, the Samsung R610 shows off a stylish black exterior with a red tinge, and a lightweight of only 2.75kg. Despite being so compact and easy to carry, the Samsung(Samsung X65 battery) R610 is still loaded with features that allow it to offer a power-packed performance. The notebook provides a vibrant visual experience on its impressive 16 inch WXGA TFT Active Matrix display screen, while its onboard Nvidia GeForce 9200M GS video chipset supports intensive graphics.

The included DVD drive is naturally expected, but the Samsung laptop’s Blu-ray drive comes as a luxury, and allows users to enjoy an extra high resolution picture on their entertainment laptop. The Samsung laptop’s core specifications are equally high-end, with a plentiful 320GB hard disk, 2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, and 3GB of RAM. Clearly, the R610 is more than optimised for watching Blu-ray HD movies, playing games, or even just general computing tasks.

When laptops begin to shut down after a short period of use, many people mistakenly believe that they need to buy new computers. Designing Spaces has learned that the solution may be as simple as replacing the laptop battery pack.
